Office of the Dean

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is an international leader in biomedical education, research, and patient care. For over fifty years, our renowned faculty, talented students, and dedicated staff have surpassed countless challenges in continuing to build an exceptional medical school.

A culture of innovation, a passion for pushing the boundaries of knowledge, and a deep respect for the diversity of backgrounds and ideas of all who come here to work, learn or seek help, are integral to the activities at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  On a daily basis, we challenge existing limitations of science and medicine to create and discover what was previously thought to be impossible.

Ranked 14th among all medical schools in the United States in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai was awarded over $400 M for research in 2021. Grant dollars per Mount Sinai investigator are among the highest in the nation. Four Mount Sinai basic science departments – Neuroscience, Pharmacological Sciences, Microbiology, and Genetics and Genomic Sciences – rank among the top five nationwide in NIH funding in their disciplines.
