Match Day 2024

The joy of Match Day filled Guggenheim Pavilion on Friday, March 15, as fourth-year medical students screamed, jumped, and hugged upon receiving their residency program matches. It was a scene repeated across the nation as graduating students simultaneously learned where they would be launching their medical careers as residents.

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai’s Class of 2024 has 133 students matching to 26 different specialties at many of the most sought-after residency programs in the nation, including those at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Yale New Haven Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, and the University of Michigan, as well as Mount Sinai Health System. Fifty students in the Class of 2024 matched to Mount Sinai.

The most popular specialties for Icahn Mount Sinai’s Class of 2024 are Internal Medicine (28), Pediatrics (11), Anesthesiology (10), Obstetrics and Gynecology (8), Neurology (7), Ophthalmology (7), and Psychiatry (7). Icahn Mount Sinai’s Class of 2024 has more students placing into primary care and neurology than any other graduating class in school history.

The Mount Sinai Health System, which has the nation’s largest residency program, will be welcoming 585 medical school graduates to 68 residency programs at The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai West, New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, and Mount Sinai South Nassau.

The National Resident Matching Program conducts the Main Residency Match annually through mathematical algorithms that align the preferences of applicants with the preferences of residency programs at teaching hospitals across the country. The 2024 Match included a record 44,853 applicants certifying a rank order list of training preferences, 35,984 of whom matched to a post-graduate year one position.
