Dr. Agustin Busta joined the Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center’s Division of Endocrinology as Associate Director of the Diabetes Program and Director of the Clinical Trials Unit. His area of expertise is diabetes management with intensive insulin therapy.
Dr. Busta previously served as an attending endocrinologist at the Mount Sinai Diabetes Center, as well as a clinical instructor in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of the American Diabetes Association, the American Society of Internal Medicine and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
After receiving his medical degree from Federico Villarreal National University School of Medicine in Lima, Peru, he completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Arzobispo Loayza Hospital in Lima. He followed this with a residency in internal medicine at Cabrini Medical Center and a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at New York University Medical Center.

Dr. Busta’s research interests have included evaluating the safety and tolerability of pyridoxamine dihydrochloride in patients with diabetic nephropathy, and the role of thiazolidinediones in the prevention of pancreatic beta-cell function.
