Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine

Dr. David A. Spinner is a Board Certified Physician. He joined Mount Sinai following the completion of an Interventional Pain Fellowship at Harvard University’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Harvard Spine Center.

Dr. Spinner is originally from New York City, a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science. He went on to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and then completed medical school at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Maimonides Medical Center and his residency here at the Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Dr. Spinner is one of the first physicians in the country to become certified in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasonography and lectures nationally on musculoskeletal interventions. He was the lead editor for the first textbook on the topic, Atlas of Ultrasound Guided Musculoskeletal Injections. He also has numerous publications in various textbooks and journals. 

Currently, Dr. Spinner serves as an assistant professor in the Rehabilitation Medicine department.  Having been trained in both Rehabilitation Medicine and an Anesthesia Pain Fellowship, he provides a unique perspective to treating both acute and chronic pain. He works by designing a treatment program that best fits your specific needs.


Dr. Spinner's interventional spinal care includes but is not limited to: Kyphoplasty, Epidural Injections, Facet Joint Injections,  Facet Cyst Aspirations, Radiofrequency Ablation, Neuromodulation (Spinal Cord Stimulation), Intrathecal Pumps (Cancer pain and Spasticity), Sympathetic Blocks, and Discography.


Dr. Spinner’s musculoskeletal care includes but is not limited to: Diagnostic Ultrasound and Guided Injections, Sports Medicine, Electrodiagnostic Testing (EMG/NCS), Spasticity management, Platelet Rich Plasma, Tenotomy and Regenerative Interventions, Pregnancy related pain

Dr. Spinner also has special interest in interventional headache management including but not limited to: Botulinum Toxin Injections, Facial Nerve Blocks, Third Occipital Nerve Blocks, Cervical Radiofrequency Ablation, Cervical Epidural Injections
