Spine Research
Dr. Iatridis’ research focus is on the development of early and minimally invasive treatments to prevent or repair injured and degenerated intervertebral discs. Dr. Iatridis received grants from the NIH, Whitaker Foundation, and AO Foundation. He was awarded a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2008, and the Berton Rahn Research Prize of the AO Research Fund in 2009 and the Henry Farfan Award for Spine Basic Sciences of the North American Spine Society in 2015. Dr. Iatridis is very active in his research community having reviewed for over 20 journals and 6 funding agencies, he currently serves on the editorial board of 2 journals. Dr. Iatridis served as inaugural Chair of the Spine Section of the Orthopaedic Research Society, President of the Orthopaedic Research Society, and previously served as member and Chair of the NIH Skeletal Biology Structure and Regeneration Study Section.
Spine Mechanobiology, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine
Our laboratory is interested in investigations of functional changes in the spine in response to loading and injury, and investigations of promising therapeutic techniques to promote spine health and repair. Our investigations span biomechanics, mechanobiology, tissue engineering, anti-inflammatory and cellular therapies. Through our animal, cell, and organ culture studies we have a focus on models of injury and repair with high relevance to human clinical conditions. Our research balances exploration of fundamental mechanisms and translation with appreciation for the development and maturation processes in human joints that promote health and disease processes.

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.

Dr. Iatridis has not yet completed reporting of Industry relationships.

Mount Sinai's faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
