Sepsis
I lead, mentor and collaborate in several projects related to sepsis care including projects evaluating standardized bundled care, unintended consequences of sepsis screening, outcomes research and disparities research.
Perioperative Care, Anesthesiology
Various topics including interventions (e.g. perioperative pain protocols, blood product management approaches, type of anesthesia), outcomes (e.g. opioid use, postoperative delirium), and subgroup analyses (e.g. patients with obstructive sleep apnea).
Orthopaedic Surgery
Various (comparative effectiveness) research topics within orthopaedics including outcomes research, infection prevention, payment reform in orthopaedics, and patient-centered outcomes.
Hospital Quality Improvement
Here, I partner with and mentor clinical champions in research varying from effectiveness of radiology clinical decision support to appropriate use of high-risk drugs in elderly patients, reduction of catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and addressing overuse of healthcare services.
Telemedicine
Research includes a national assessment of telemedicine programs in primary care in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine evaluation frameworks, and assessing the role of telemedicine in preoperative patient education.

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.

Dr. Poeran has not yet completed reporting of Industry relationships.

Mount Sinai's faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
