Jennifer Koestler, MD
- ADJUNCT ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR | Pediatrics
As Director of the Life Science Secondary School-Mount Sinai Health Discovery Program I coordinate the activities of Internal Medicine and Pediatric Residents at this Public Junior/Senior High School. My personal involvement includes the coordination of the program??s orientation and the facilitation and planning of small group, interactive presentations on science topics appropriate for Junior High School Students. Preliminary information about the program was presented at the AAMC National Meeting in the Fall, 2001.
As Director of the Pediatric Clerkship I developed a case-based, web supported undergraduate pediatrics curriculum, based on a set of core competencies. In the process, I refined the existing course syllabus and goals and objectives.
The design of the new curriculum also involved planning joint experiences (with my counterpart in Ob/Gyn) for students rotating through Ob/Gyn and Pediatrics. These sessions included a group orientation and joint seminars in Domestic Violence, Ethics, and Child Abuse.
My specific teaching roles have included major participation in the student didactic series, small group physical diagnosis rounds, and the ?"Introduction to the Pediatric Patient?" lecture for all second year medical students.
Administrative responsibilities of the position also include the preparation of grade narratives for all third year medical students who have completed pediatrics. Committee responsibilities include participation in each of the following: the Morchand Center Steering Committee, the Second Year Comprehensive Assessment Committee, the Fourth Year Planning Committee, the Promotions Committee, and the Grade Advisory Committee.
