Malini D. Sur, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is a board certified surgeon specializing in surgical oncology, and her clinical focus includes treatment of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, pancreas, breast, and endocrine system, as well as melanoma and sarcoma. After graduating from Harvard College, she received her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where she was honored with the Eugene W. Friedman, MD, Prize for Clinical Excellence. She went on to complete her general surgery residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was appointed Administrative Chief Resident and awarded the Arthur H. Aufses, Sr. Prize in Surgery for her scholarship, concern for patients, and outstanding teaching. Subsequently, Dr. Sur completed an accredited fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at the University of Chicago Medical Center. During this time, she worked with the Chicago Pancreatic Cancer Initiative to improve the prediction of postoperative outcomes in elderly patients undergoing pancreatic surgery. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she completed a surgical ethics fellowship at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics and was selected as a Surgical Education Research Fellow by the Association for Surgical Education.

Dr. Sur is skilled in both open and laparoscopic approaches in oncologic surgery and strongly values an evidence-based, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. She feels privileged to have an immediate impact on her patients through surgery, while also cultivating long lasting relationships through her care. She is also interested in the role of medical ethics in surgical oncology as it relates to communication between surgeons and patients and among physicians, and how improvements in these areas might enhance patient outcomes. She has authored several publications and given presentations in both surgical oncology and ethics. She is a member of the Society for Surgical Oncology, the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the American College of Surgeons.
