  • PROFESSOR | Neurology

Dr. Steve Frucht, Professor of Neurology, is director of Movement Disorders in the Robert and John M. Bendheim Parkinson and Movement Disorders Center at Mount Sinai Medical Center. A native New Yorker, he received his undergraduate and medical degrees at Harvard before training in neurology at New York Hospital where he served as chief resident. After completing training in Clinical Movement Disorders at Columbia University, he joined the Columbia faculty where he remained until his appointment at Mount Sinai in 2011. In addition to evaluating the full spectrum of patients with movement disorders, he is particularly interested in advancing the treatment of unusual and difficult-to -treat movement disorders in adults and children. His research interests focus on the evaluation and treatment of hyperkinetic movement disorders, including essential tremor and vocal tremor, spasmodic dysphonia, myoclonus, and task-specific dystonia affecting musicians (an area of interest given his training as a classical musician). Dr. Frucht has participated in numerous clinical trials, and is currently involved with NIH supported collaborations investigating the genetics and imaging of dystonia and complex movement disorders. Dr. Frucht has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, authored two textbooks, and lectured nationally and internationally more than thirty times in courses sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology and International Movement Disorders Society. As director of the Bendheim Center, he oversees clinical operations of more than 6,000 yearly visits, including 1,250 new patient visits of patients with movement disorders from the New York area and beyond. He also trains post-graduate movement disorders fellows who plan to pursue careers as academic movement disorder neurologists. Most importantly, Dr. Frucht is committed to insuring that each patient seen at the Bendheim Center receives compassionate and excellent care.
